About Funke
Funke Olokude is a proud resident of Edmonton and a dedicated community builder with over 15 years of diverse experience in various sectors, which include non-profit leadership, education institutions, and community-based research. In 2020, Funke was instrumental in influencing the City of Edmonton’s Affordable Housing Strategy, which successfully contributed to actionable, concrete solutions for addressing homelessness across the city.
As a mother of two, a homeowner, and business owner, Funke is deeply committed to fostering an inclusive, vibrant future for all Edmontonians. Her work in social services and community development has influenced transformative policies in housing, transit, health equity, and child services, earning her a reputation for data-driven, evidence-based approaches to systemic inequities.
She is the former Executive Director of the Ribbon Rouge Foundation, where she led a strong team to champion the use of community arts to drive health equity and social transformation. Under her leadership, storytelling and thought-provoking conversations inspired advocacy for a more just society. As CEO of Hexagon Wellness Solutions, Funke continues to advance equity-focused policies and programs, ensuring marginalized voices shape impactful solutions.
Funke serves as President of the Nigerian Canadian Association of Edmonton (2023–2025) and a board member of the Bredin Centre for Career Advancement, advocating for cultural preservation, economic empowerment, and social inclusion. Her contributions have earned her notable recognitions such as Edmonton’s Top 40 Under 40 (2020), the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal, and the 2024 Newcomer Centre RISE Community Champion Award.
A visionary leader, Funke remains committed to building resilient communities through equitable access to services and opportunities, ensuring Edmonton thrives as a place for all.
Education
Funke’s academic credentials include a bachelor’s degree in psychology from York University (2009), a bachelor’s degree in social work from the University of Calgary (2018), and a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Adult and Community Education from the University of Alberta (2020). These qualifications underpin her expertise in education, collaborative leadership, and systemic change.
